The Monty Hall Problem

Named after the host of the television game show “Let’s Make a Deal,” this probability puzzle confounds many people. In the problem, a contestant is asked to choose one of three doors, behind one of which is a prize. After the contestant makes their choice, the host (who knows what’s behind each door) opens one of the other doors, revealing a non-prize. The contestant is then given the option to switch their choice to the other unopened door. Counterintuitively, switching doubles the contestant’s chances of winning.
